As Business Advisor for the Government Contracting Small Business Development Center, Karen Collins is responsible for identifying federal, state and city procurement opportunities, one-on-one counseling, and classroom instruction.
Prior to joining the SBDC, Karen served as a Senior Financial Aid Advisor, USAF Veteran, Peace Corps Small Procurement Contract Specialist, and business owner.
Karen assists all small businesses, but holds a special focus for veterans, women, and businesses that benefit from socio-economic certifications. Clients are given tools for proper industry classifications, solicitation searches, client evaluation and bid review, networking referrals and essential tools to enhance their business capability to effectively compete in the government arena.
Karen is a National Society of Collegiate Scholars alumni, held a CCNA certification, and operated personal businesses in property management, tax preparation, and real estate investments.
Collins earned her BA in International Relations in 1992, received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force Reserve (USAFR) in May 1993, and was awarded the Greater LA YWCA Phenomenal Woman of the Year award in 2001.
